I go on different websites and read different questions people post on how can they gain more muscle.They seem to think that there's some magical secret routine out there that will give them the results they want.I believe no matter which routine by a particular strength coach you choose if you dont take in suficient calories to support you workout you are not going to see the results you want. The only way to truly understand your physique is through trial and error,appreciate the journey.There is truly no short cut to mastery.
While you do have to have your diet in order, a good routine is also needed. You need to work muscles evenly and do mostly compound basic lifts to gain the most mass. The routines by any of the better coaches will work. But not all workouts are created equal. But you are right that without proper nutrition you can't grow no matter how good your training is.
