I'm actually the same. My guess would be because i've trained that grip more. I rotate 'grips', as well as rep range, and I tend to train medium overhand more at lower rep ranges. Although, the difference isn't much, so that's just a guess.Matt Z wrote:PS) It might sound strange, but I'm actually stronger with a medium overhand grip than I am with a underhand or neutral grip.
Great! "almost 3" to 5 is still a big increase. Are you sure that' your goal? We'll still cheer if you make 4.wilburburns wrote:OK, I finally made it to the Gym last night.
I'll call my first starting point.
2-reps Dead Hang shoulder width Underhand Grip
5 reps because it was almost 3 full reps and they were done almost immediately after finishing my Power Cleans.
It's difficult to say what my true baseline is. The last time I done high rep pull ups was about 7 months ago, for sets of 8, and it was the 4th exercise in the work out, using an underhand grip (ok so it was a chin up then). All other times, i've been hitting pull ups in the 2-5 rep range. So I don't really have a baseline for ~10reps. I was going to do the challenge in a heavier rep range, but Peter convinced me to come out of my comfort zone (dam you, Peter) which is never a bad thing. In terms of limit strength, i'm still not back to where I was, so I expect another big improvement next week. As you can see it's kind of all over the place....Jungledoc wrote:So, what is your true baseline and what is you goal?
When I set out to do this, I was hoping for ~10 reps with 15kg/33lbs. I got 5 reps with that weight doing towel pull ups in November, but 9 reps @ 10kg killed me last week. I actually wanted to die, but then I got my breath back and realised life was precious.. From that, I hoped to achieve 15reps by the end of the challenge, but maybe i'll get that next week.... Who knows.
A much shorter answer would have been.... "I don't know". If I get 15 reps next week, i'll increase the weight for the following week and go to failure, I think. I'm sure >15 reps decreases your T-Levels, or something.
p.s obviously i'm joking about the T-levels thing....
