There are 2 flaws in this logic. 1. Most people have 2.5 lb plates so increments have to be in multiples of 5# for convenience sake. 2. Gains come slower as your training age and physical age increase. It's still gives a good idea of what to expect.

How do you add 7.5 lb to a barbell? Unless you have microplates. So you add 10 pounds some months, add 5 pounds some months, some months you don't get your reps and leave it the same.
It's the overall structure of 5/3/1 that reduces the risk of the early stall, the lighter sets and the heavier sets, and mostly the AMAP sets at the end of each lift.

There are magnetic plates you can get. They just stick on to the side. I use them occasionally with powerblocks.

I made some for my kid out of chain links, it was pretty easy and a lot cheaper than buying them, and they work great, weight is weight.
