Hi guys I was just wondering what the best types of shoes for lifting is.. Im starting to hate lifting in running shoes so I want some good quality shoes for all types of purposes.. For instance, would jordans be ok for lifting? What types of shoes are good for both running and lifting???? and which shoes will not, and I repeat WILL NOT Wear down, or tear, or get unbalanced??

I've found i change footwear depending on what i'm doing.
For lifting, Rippetoe in Starting Strength edition 2 highly recommends weightlifting shoes, which apparently are quite reasonably priced. i've never seen a pair in a retail store in Australia. I don't have these. i go barefoot for deadlift.
My deadlift and squat changed considerably when i swapped runners for flat soled canvas shoes. I paid $10 aud for a noname pair of these, like slip ons. There's also other threads with footwear discussions:

These indicate a few of the participants swap in and out of their shoes depending on the activity. Runners, or basketball shoes for moving would be ok, and feet for static stuff.
There seems to be an opinion regularly expressed on the forum that nothing less that steelcapped boots offer actual protection from dropped weights, and then it's still dependent on the weight.
When i run, i wear runners from one of the big companies.
Sadly i think the only shoes that meet the critera you've listed are the ones you do not use (edit: actually, clogs would meet this criteria, but are both unwieldy and difficult to locate). Though i've never seen someone experience a shoe related injury.

I tried Vibrams, and they disintegrated really quickly for me (< 100 mi of mild running before a small tear appeared, and < 300 mi before they weren't usable at all anymore). Lots of my friends like 'em, though, so it's probably just that I have feet that aren't the right shape for Vibrams.

they arent shiny like those but thats 99% close to what I have, the tiny bit of logic (as they don't exactly transform my gym experience) is A: the shell at the front is reasonably thick rubber, its not going to wear through pressure of toes/mis shape.
When I kick weights around/moving them/using them to prop up an angle it helps a tad to have the hard end.
The soles are very thick/flat and it has ankle support (you can feel a specifically inserted armor/plate)
So although im not squatting 400lbs yet or deadlifting 700 - I'm quite happy with them.
Thick flat sole, ankle support, reasonably tough build so they dont warp - thats all I went for.

I do think the OP is being a little unrealistic, though. However, if you do find some shoes that will not wear down, please tell us. Doesn't take long for my chucks to get all beat up.
I think Frees would be perfect for something to suit lifting and running (p.s - why are you running??). One point worth mentioning is, if you are used to big heeled-cushioned expensive footwear then you're going to need to ease yourself into shoes like Frees. When you give the muscles in your feet the chance to actually do something, it can be quite brutal until you're used to it.
When I first got Frees I was convinced they were the wrong size, even though they seemed to fit. I never read of any warnings about easing into them. My feet were killing me for about 2 weeks then, all of a sudden, they felt great. Now it feels horrible when I put on any kind of traditional shoes. My "making an effort with my appearance" shoes don't even have a drastic heel lift but I feel horrible even wearing them.

I either use Oasic Tai Chi's, or Pumas that have flat bottoms, i forget which kind they are.
