Stretching Excersises

Post by aman » Mon May 16, 2011 4:26 am

I have few questions:

1) Is it important to peform stretching after every gym workout?
2) Which are the best and wholesome stretching excersises?

Any other advice on this subject.

I think it's helpful to stretch out the muscle you used but I wouldn't say it's essential.

I like the lying knee-to-knee stretch. http://ericcressey.com/newsletter152html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I also like using the Thomas test as a stretch.

i've been incorporating extra stretching every 7-8 sessions. it feels good. after some sessions or training cycles feels like it can relieve accumulated tension.
i perform movements that i learned in a tai chi class that i treat as stretches - reaching up as high as i can while standing on my toes, squatting down as low as possible then standing up reaching as high as possible, rotating my shoulders, hips and waist, bending forward while standing and leaning back while standing, knee lifts and knee rotations. even a thing called horse stance, which is holding a wide legged squat. for some reason i also do ballet style leg swings - legs loosely swung forwards and backwards and side to side. feels good.
