Goblet squat

Post by mark74 » Sun Aug 21, 2011 9:28 am

Did a set as a warm up last friday, my hip adductors have been ridden with DOMS for two days now. Any reason why the goblet would do that to me and not back squatting - other than I'm doing it wrong?

And if you have any good links (analysis, instructions, in-depth whatever) on this exercise, I'll be thankful.

You're probably not doing anything "wrong". You're probably going down deeper and your back is more upright. I bet front squats and overhead squats would do the same to you. It's all good, you've found a movement that can use more work.

Some good reading here: http://www.t-nation.com/readArticle.do?id=1736931" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

That's the target muscle for the goblet squat. So nothing unusual there.

knees out more?

I like me some goblet squats.
Those and sqautting in front of a wall, are helpful to hitting a proper back squat

Front squats I've done some when my shoulder was out of order, I felt limited by the ability of my lower back to keep the torso upright, but as far as I can remember my adductors didn't budge. Then again I've been using a wider stance for the last few months.

Hardly the only one :lol:

That's good to know, thanks for chiming in.

Hmmm, I'm already using as wide a stance as I can in my back squat (I just find it easier) and likely assumed the same starting position on the goblet. But I'll check next time.
