patient and pain forum suggestions?

Post by sks24 » Fri Oct 21, 2011 6:02 pm

Longshot posting here, but I've got a friend who's really suffering, and I trust you guys, and I'm hoping you might at least have some forum suggestions for us.

He was hit by a car about three weeks ago while riding his bike, and both he and his wife are having a very tough time with the medical bureaucracy at Alden Rehab and the Illinois Bone and Joint Institute and some hospital I can't remember the name of . . . typical one hand doesn't know what the other is doing. (He's a philosophy professor, and I'll bet he's been a bit cranky. So I'm sure that wouldn't have helped.)

Pretty serious hip fracture, then infection set in, they didn't stay on top of the post-op pain, and now his symptoms look a lot like reflexive sympathetic dystrophy (RSD) to me. I suggested they get a pain specialist in last week, and, as of today, it looks like they've got one coming in next Wednesday. (Dickson S. Wu, who's listed on the faculty here: http://www.rushanesthesia.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)

But they're really having to fight to keep him adequately medicated for the pain, and it sounds like the staff has kind of closed ranks, and so it would really be great if I could find some forums for her so that she might get some good hand-holding. I've been Googling my butt off here - "chronic pain forum" and a zillion other search terms - but I can't find anything which looks non-commercial and legit.

But you guys really helped me awhile back (yes, I'm still lifting. scroll to the RHS of sheet 5 here: http://goo.gl/s0jow" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;), and so I was hoping maybe one of the PT's who peek in over here - or anybody - might know of a good forum.

Hope you are all doing well.
Thanks in advance,
Scott

All I can offer is prayer.

Best of luck finding help for your friends

thanks O_A: I don't think there's anything out there. I've posted in several places, and I'm getting nothing back.
