I feel like 8" is excessive, but pulling from a deficit will help you off the floor.

I get stuck around mid shin. I can break a whole lot more from the floor than I can get to my knees and lock out.

BTW what do you recommend to prevent bleeding while deadlifting? My shins are scarred from it and i accept the bleeding as part of it but i used chalk for my first time ever yesterday and killed it. I happened to bleed a bit so i just had a paper towel handy. Could I use vasoline?

BTW PR yesterday deadlited 355 7 times at the end of my deads workout. Awesome.

You talking about your shins or your hands bleeding?

Sometimes I use knee level socks, but that causes a bit of friction, so when I want to bypass the friction, I get a 2 liter bottle of soda, cut in half with the neck off, and stick it on my shins. Double edged sticky tape inside the half keep it on the shins long enough for a DL session.

I wrap the bar with an ace bandage. Helps both the squat and the DL

I tape my shins. I just run a piece of 1 1/2 adhesive tape from just below where the bar touches my shins on set-up, to just above where the bar hits me at lock-out. It's not a perfect solution. If my skin is already sweaty the tape doesn't stick well, and pulls loose when the bar rubs on it. I've tried cleaning my skin with alcohol first, but that wasn't perfect either. I'd try something called tincture of benzoin (also called Friar's Balsam) on my shins, but it is a limited resource at my hospital, so I hate to waste it on an essentially recreational activity. It makes the skin tacky and makes tape adhere much better.

In the past I've taped the bar instead of my shins. That helped a little.

Does anyone know about the deadlifting socks that they sell at EliteFTS? Are they just knee-high socks, or is there something special about them?

I've also wrapped cloth around the bar in the center where it contacts my shins, wrapped loosely enough that it just turns around the bar. It just twisted and tangled. I've thought to make a sleeve out of an old tee shirt that was just big enough to slip onto an unloaded bar, but haven't tried that yet.

I guess the scraped shins are still a novelty for me, cuz I still think it's cool.
