I'm doing 5/3/1. Soon I'll be testing 1RMs in the four basic lifts. Not all on the same day.
If I want to do whatever I can to ensure the highest possible 1RM, when in the cycle should I do it? I can picture trying it in Wave 3, or slipping in another week before or after deload, but don't really know how to reason through this. I have this intuitive sense that an extra week after deload would be the best, but that is based on only 2 cycles of experience, so I don't trust it much.

Re: Another 1RM question: When to do it?
Wendler recommends doing in the 5/3/1 week. But suggests modifying the reps so instead of the normal 5/3/1 you go 3/1/1 and to keep adding 5 or 10lbs increments after your top set till you stall.
For example -
3 x 75% (instead of 5)
1 x 85% (instead of 3)
1 x 95%
1 x 100%
1 x 105%
1 x 110%
Does that make sense?

Re: Another 1RM question: When to do it?
It's not in the book. It comes from a compilation of Wendlers Blood & Chalk series and maybe questions answered on the elitefts website series regarding 5/3/1. A forum user (don't know which site) compiled them all together and Wendler put them on his training log over at elitefts. It's worth a read.KenDowns wrote:is that in the book? Did I miss that?
