Safe to replace water with milk while using creatine?

Post by Gantz » Sat Nov 17, 2012 3:31 pm

Large amounts of water are required for creatine to exhibit its greatest effects, and considering that milk is around ~90% water, could milk be a substitute for regular water then?

I'm talking about drinking 8-9 cups of milk every day with maybe 1-2 cups of water.

If your stomach can handle it, then go nuts. Milk is an awesome source of protein and vitamins and minerals as well.

Why are "large amounts of water are required for creatine to exhibit its greatest effects"?

Maybe it's a conclusion drawn from the fact that creatine soaks water.

Hmm, perhaps my earlier statement was not correctly worded.

But creatine does lead to muscle saturation of water, and thus your body has less water molecules for its other usual functions. In order to compensate for this, it is recommended to be fully hydrated at all times, correct?

So if the body is dehydrated, it's possible that creatine in your muscle cells won't be able to function at optimum capacity, yes?

I'm giving creatine another chance just now and I've been pissing like a racehorse, so I think there probably is some reason to drink large amounts of water with it...

On creatine as always, drink according to thirst. If your body doesn't have enough water, you feel thirsty.
