Someone gave us a TRX "system" (I don't know what's system about it, it's just one thing) for our little gym. I had seen a reference somewhere, I think here on the forum, to someone using them for "fall-outs", which I took to be analogous to a roll-out. The DVD that came with the thing has a lot of exercises, and offers one the opportunity to pay money to be shown some more (thank you very much), which offer I have, by stint of main strength and will, resisted so far.

Well, it didn't seem worthless. It's well-designed and well-made, with nice spring-loaded clamps to quickly adjust the length. So I took it to the gym and hung it up where the heavy bag should and would be, had it not sprung a leak and resisted our efforts to repair it. So I do the "fall-outs" which seem to be good, and are kind of fun.

Does anyone use a TRX? What do you use it for? Does anyone do "fall-outs"? If so, what do you do in terms of the height of the handles from the floor, your stance, etc? How do you program it? I stand about 18-20 inches away from it with the handles at about knee-height, then grab the handles and lean forward until I'm in a flying super-man position (thought Sam tells me my body is not straight, but slightly flexed at the waist) and try to get my arms out as straight as I can, although they are not fully-extended, and then press down, and flex my hips until I'm standing up again.

I did them for 5 sets of 10 inter-setted with a couple of other assistance exercises.

I made one with a piece of rope just so I could try body saws. There are several demo exercises on Youtube that should give you some ideas of what to do with it.

I'm considering making one with some chain and handles for the back porch.

The plan would be to do some BW exercises and get enough weights for a nice BB or DB Complex for when I can't actually get to the gym.

For my homemade TRX, I would do Inverted rows, suspended pushups, want to try the rollouts, and I will be looking at some of the Youtube vids for other exercises.

The gym I work at has 2 pairs of these. We use them all the time for things like:

- single leg squats
- rows
- high rows
- mountain climbers

They're pretty useful for anything you might do on rings. Think:

- suspended pushups (put them almost to the floor and do pushups holding them)
- dips
- renegade rows - pushup off them, followed by "rowing" one arm back. Killer stabilization exercise.
- scarecrows
- rear delt flyes
- face pulls (moving you instead of the weight)

The website linked about has even more exercises. They're pretty versatile. Anything you see me doing in my log that says "Blast Straps" you can probably do with the TRX with almost no problems.
