Has anyone else seen the the new Discovery Channel Show "Last Man Standing"? In it 6 atheletes from different disciplines (a strongman compeditor, a kickboxer, a rugby player, a BMX racer, a generic endurance athelete and a "fitness guru") travel to remote locations across the globe. Upon arrival, they have approximately one week to live and train with the locals before competing in various tribal ritual sports, which range from canoo and foot races to wrestling and Zulu stickfighting. So far, the strongman has done very well (with one episode left he was tied for the lead). Meanwhile, the endurance athelete has done very poorly, even in the endurance events.

Sounds very interesting but I don't have cable. I'll check the Discovery channel website for some clips. A locally produced version of Gladiators is making a comeback here also on free-to-air tv.

Found some clips on youtube. Looks good. There was one funny scene where one of the contestants refused to eat sheep testicles in Mongolia. Can't say I blame him.

There was another funny scene in Indonesia. It was during a martial arts tournament where the strongman was matched against one of the locals. As soon as the ref starts the match, the Indonesian guy literally turns his back and starts running away. The strongman chases him around in circles until he catches him by the jacket and easily slams him to the ground. It was pretty sad considering the Indonesian guy had been training most of his life and the strongman had only trained for a weak.

PS.) The strongman when on to beat two more of the locals, but at least they put up a fight.

It's hard to take on a guy with a neck thicker than your rib cage.
