Set small goals many of them so that you can hit them and keep feeling good about yourself. Also keep a journal. Do many things that make you feel healthier play basketball jog with a friend make fun of really fat people.LMAO about the last one jk though. Get some workout partners that help motivate you. Have a never quit attitude and bust your butt in the gym only you can push harder no one else can.

All good points Manofsteel319. Thanks!

I'm wondering what specifically everyone does to motivate themselves to get to the gym or to stay interested. I pump up my music on my iPod and have a High-intensity mix but that doesn't get me out the door in the morning. I noticed that when I take suppliments (which is not often), it gets me more interested in working out in general. Also, before I go on vacation I'm more interested.

I have a great playlist and will try to get posted here if I can figure out how to do it without typing the whole thing out.

Ipod is huge, or going with a friend/partner. I have a partner whos fairly close to me in weight right now, though I'm starting to pass him up. Usually during lifting I don't need motivation, but i can't do cardio without music. Just doesn't happen.

I'm utterly terrified of going into my next fight without training as hard as I can before it.

But even before I started fighting I was able to stay motivated. I just decided one day back in 1999 that I'd work out forever, and get as strong and faster and fit as I could. Not there yet, so why stop? Plus it is a fun process. It's hard work but it's satisfying work. I really need nothing to rev me up more than the idea of getting stronger. I don't like workout partners, too distracting, and most people's idea of "motivation" doesn't work for me. If you try to yell me into lifting more I'll argue back. Leave me to my own devices and I'll lift as much as I possibly can anyway.

I find working out a great stress reliever. When it's a tough day, I start obsessing over whether I'll make it to the gym after work.

A certain social element helps me, whether a workout partner or just friends there at the same time (everyone where I live are friends, so it doesn't matter who is there, they are friends!), but I can work out alone at times, and enjoy thinking my own thoughts and dancing a bit between sets (hoping no one is peeking in the windows).

Music is also important to me, although I'm guessing most of you would find my music pretty tame! I don't think I'll upload a play list. I can listen to my 18 year-old's music, but I find my 43 year old friend's tastes a bit conservative. At 55 I actually like it harder than he does. I can listen to classical , jazz, contemporary Christian, or Christian rock while I'm working out. That reminds me, I need to put some new CDs in the bag for next time.
