Movies So Bad They're Great!!

Post by Matt Z » Wed Jun 25, 2008 8:41 pm

Right of the top of my head:
"The Last Dragon"
"The Legend of Boggy Creek"
"Hercules" and "Hercules Unchained"
"Rodan"

How about "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes"? Easy Rider? It was a terrible movie, but it succeeded in bringing my generation onto the floor to be heard.

I think the Evil Dead series is actually pretty good.

I'd go with "any movie with Joel or Mike and the bots watching it with you."

And Godzilla movies. And Gamera movies. And Ultraman movies. And really bad shot-in-one-afternoon-and-one-take Kung Fu movies, with or without dubbing.

The Evil Dead series is awesome. True Cult Classic. But if it were any more B and campy, it would be Disney. Still, I love it.

The thing is, the Evil Dead series was intentionally campy. Army of Darkness was even more of a comedy. Roger Ebert even gave the 2nd one very high marks.

I think in this care we are talking about movies that are just bad, but end up being entertaining anyway.

Now Bubba Hotep on the other hand was an absolutely dreadful movie, but it had a few really parts too it. Plus some of it was just so bad you had to laugh.

Then there are movies like the Scorpion King, that are just bad. They aren't even dumb funny bad. They are awful torture methods that make you want to poke your eyes out. I had to turn it off about 20 minutes in. Scorpion King has to be one of the worst movies even made.

Great thread. I love films that are so bad, they're good. Most of the films that I thought were amazing when I was very young are now hilariously bad.

In no particular order,

Kick Boxer (Worth the watch just for the dancing / bar scene and I could quote everything Tong Po and Eric say)
No Retreat No Surrender (this is AMAZING LOL especially the bully, and RJ's 'rap')
Teen Wolf (the wolf outfits are beautiful, especially the dad)
Masters of The Universe (I LOVE this film!)
The Lost Boys
Red Heat
Double Impact (two JCVD's, what more can you ask for)
Hercules in New York

I'll stop there

Starship Troopers .. almost wrote Super Troopers which to me is funny as hell.

I thought I was the only person who saw Hercules in NY.

I read Starship Troopers years ago and was really looking forward to it. What a disappointment.

lol, I've got it in VIDEO. The older films are much better to watch on video. The poor quality ads to the nostalgia.

Boggy Creek was awesomely bad. There was absolutely no plot and they didn't even hire actors. They just hired a bunch of locals to play themselves. Also the people making the movie couldn't decide if they wanted to make a documentary or a horror movie, and right in the middle of the movie theres a completely random musical interlude with stock nature footage.

My favorite part of Rodan was the dramatic ending, where the people must kill the monsters to save mankind. It's intended to be very tragic and sad, but the special effects are so bad it's hilarious.
