turn off emails

is there some way to change it so you don't get an email notifying you when someone's posted in a thread you've started or have replied in?

I've got a billion new messages in my inbox and I want rid

User Control Panel > Overview > Manage Subscriptions > Check Mark Each Box on Right > 'Unwatch Marked' on lower right.

Alternatively, if you want to watch a specific thread such as your journal or something that interests you...

Go to the thread or specific forum > Click 'Subscribe Forum'/'Subscribe Topic' option in the upper left.

So...

Board Index > Online Journals > 'Bob's back rehab log' > 'Subscribe Topic'
