which is a better routine?

last month i was doing 3 sets of an exercise ie. dumbell bench press 90 lbs/3sets of 10reps today i change reps doing 100lbs/5sets of 5reps. 90lbs/3sets of 10 reps is 2700 lbs and 100lbs/5sets of 5 reps is 2500.

By that logic 100 lbs for 5 reps should equal 500 lbs for 1 rep. In the real world it just doesn't work that way.
