I keep hearing people recommend that if you have a stuck lift, try a different but similar exercise(s) and when you return to your main, hopefully it will improve. Does this advice "violate" the "specificity" principle, i.e. not a good suggestion?
"Specificity" means that to get better at something, you need to do that something. That doesn't mean switching to front squats for a short time won't help a stuck back squat. It may, you just have to get back to the back squats after. Accessory lifts are the same. There may be a weakness or some compensation in your movement pattern that getting away from the main lift for a short time might correct.
