Squat Form Check

Post by dudeindisguise2010 » Tue Mar 31, 2015 2:03 am

Hey guys,

I'm a noob at lifting, and I'd appreciate any feedback I could get on my form. I feel like I'm not always going low enough, and I have a habit of kicking my butt/hips back first, which I'm concerned could lead to an injury down the road. I recorded my last set, because I felt like it would emphasize any deficiencies I have. If it's relevant, I'm 5'8", 140, and I'm attempting to squat 205 for 5 reps.

Yeah the sticking your ass out thing? I dunno what that's all about, bro, better just quit it right away. I can't concentrate on anything else while watching this, it's weird. Your depth seems to be exactly or very nearly parallel from that angle.

Unlock your knees as you sit back into the squat.

Depth is good. You should stop that move with your butt. Why are you doing it?

And you shouldn't squat with running shoes, tha's not healthy. Better buy yourself Adidas Powerlift 2.0 or some weightlifting shoes.

In the past, I had issues with getting my butt back far enough (so that my knees didn't track out over my toes). I ended up developing that as a way of ensuring that I got my butt back far enough.

Aside from that, does everything else more or less look all right?

Looks ok apart from that, but if you stop doing that can you maintain good form in the rest of the movement? The problem is that you've patterned a bad movement and now you have to unlearn it. Make a new video without the bend at the start

Ben, If you don't stop that, you are going to severely limit your growth (at best) or get hurt (at worst). Grab you a box and box squat. Look at your shin angle before you get up. If your knees are too far forward then sit farther back.
Thanks TimD.
