Upper Body Strength Program

I am new to the site and body building so here goes. Several months ago I had a large number of medical test run because I was noticing weak upper body strength. Several things were researched as possible cause range from brain toumor to MS. In the end the doctors and test could not find the problem. I also had two months of physical theripy which showed vast improvement. It was recommended that I purchase a multi station cable type of machine so I purchased a Vectra 1850.

Now the problem.. I travel a lot and need help in learning the correct way to use a "cable machine" for exercises. Is there a book, cards, software which I can purchase to show me the correct way to do the exercises. I tavel a lot overseas so small size would be great.

Thoughts? Thanks

The book or the machine needs to be small?

You can see how to do the exercises here.

You click on the part you want to work on the right. Then the next screen will have exercises on the left and it has them marked as barbell, dumbbell, cable and so on. I think this is also available on cd.

If you travel a lot you should learn the proper way to do body weight exercises. You don't have to pack any equipment in order to get a good workout. They also provide a good warmup for when you have access to equipment.

I find that EXRX doesn't have much in the way of bodyweight exercies but there are lots at Dragondoor.


In my opinion, the 2 most important upper body exercises are push ups and inverted rows (or Supine Rows). The inverted rows are easier than pull ups but can be quite challenging if you do them one-handed.
