Overtraining Signs

Post by Buzz » Wed Apr 18, 2007 10:32 am

The question: Is a low blood iron level a sign of overtraining?

The background: My doc seems concerned about a long term below normal iron level in my blood work. This low level dates back over ten years without any other measures falling outside of the normal ranges. I train often and mostly in intervals. A while back I was showing the symptoms of overtraining and changed the workouts to eliminate the symptoms. Now I occasionally show the symptoms and ease off training until they disappear.

The information that I've seen doesn't seem to show one thing or another. Is a study (more than one is better) showing a relationship between overtraining and low blood iron?

It sounds like poor diet to me.

Ironman could be right, and also if you do have a poor diet and hectic schedule, that cal also lead up to low blood iron content. whens the last time you were tested for anemia?

To adress Buzz's question on studies, I got curious and just did a search on MSN for "the effects of overtraining on iron deficiency", and got tons of hits.I suggest, Buzz, you do the same search and wade through them.
