Close-grip vrs Wide-grop on Military Presses

Do you do more sets of regular bench presses than you do of close grips? That might be it. Also, if you do other chest excercises on the same day as bench presses there might be a cumulative effect, since most chest excercises also work front delts to some extent.

On the matter of overhead presses, after you move the bar a little past upper arm parallel the floor, the shoulder almost completely stops being the prime mover and the triceps take over completely.

Its about the same i'd say. Until very recently i was doing all wide grip benching on one day, and all close grip benching 3 or 4 days later. Thats all I do, no flies or cable moves. Front delts have always been far more sore on the wide day for me, even on the weeks where i do no direct front delt exercises whatsoever.

Where on your chest does the bar touch? I lower the bar to my lower peck line (just bellow my nipples) on both close-grip and regular bench presses, and to my upper chest on inclines.

Then it's strange that the effects you feel are so much different. I don't know what would account for it.
