dumbell raises

If anyone here does dumbell raises (http://exrx.net/WeightExercises/Deltoid ... aises.html) has it bin giving u great shoulder results? And would it still be a good form if my elbow goes above my traps when pulling it up?[/url]

I've been doing lots of these recently, and definitely recommend them to you for shoulder work. But I haven't begun doing them with dumbbells yet (I'll be switching to that in a few weeks). It should give the proper form in text on the page you linked to...[/url]

I don't really do any isolation work for front delts. I don't really think it's necessary, since they get so much work from overhead presses and benching.

ots not the front delts its the laterals.

My mistake. I thought you were talking about dumbbell front raises. Dumbbell laterals are a great exercise. Raising your hands above shoulder height is fine, but it won't do much for your delts, since the upper traps pretty much take over at that point.

I recently started doing side raises with heavy weight; some of my form goes by the wayside, but it's terribly effective. Makes your shoulders look wider too.

My delts seem to respond best when I use strict form. At first I could only use light dumbbells (maybe 15 or 20lbs each), but now I use either 35s and 40s for sets of 12.

PS.) I worked up to 40 lb dumbbells gradually of course. It didn't happen overnight.

yeah i do them and love it, this was the exrx i suggested to you in your front bb raise thread. i really like them since they are assisted by the rear delts, which is a weakness for me, so after i have done my rear delt rows i like doing the db raise.

i believe if your elbows are going above your traps (middle fibers) then you may be bringing the dbs to the front of your chest.
my elbows usually dont go above my shoulds as the wrists and dbs touch my arm pits.
elbows go out to the side, the only way my elbows go above the traps is if the dbs go in front of my chest, like as with the upright row
