Squat briefs`
Ordering my first pair today. Any suggestions?
They are called squat briefs.

I am hoping they help stabilize my hip.

You may have read this, it's quite an old article, but still good - Cressey, Healing the Hips. http://www.elitefts.com/documents/healing_the_hips.htmhoosegow wrote:They are called squat briefs.

It talks about anterior hip pain (is this what you have?) and also mentions squat briefs. It's quite a short article.
I think the briefs are a good thing to have. They should allow you to train pain free. I think the serious lifter needs stuff like that. The amount of times i've went into the gym with a flared up shoulder or knee mounts up to a lot of random days off. Deep Heat (anti inflammatory cream) would be applied - loads of it. if the pain doesn't go away then the burning and smell of menthol make you forget about it anyway. Seriously though, it's a 'symptom based' approach that allows me to keep training pain free. Briefs should provide a similar advantage. As time went on, I was able to find ways to stop the flaring up in the first place, so I hardly ever, if at all, need to use that cream now.
So in short - I think they're worth buying. But just be aware that 'something' must be going on to make your hip sore in the first place. Whilst the briefs will help in the short term, don't let them make you lose sight of the long term...
One sesssion with a good physio (physical therapist) would be enough to figure out what's tight and what's weak... It's all you need to know, it's just hard to figure out on your own. And sometimes, it's even harder to find a good physio, in my experience anyway..

Re: Squat briefs`
Hey guys,
I just recently ordered my first pair of squat briefs, they are Inzer HB Groove Briefs, and they are a bitch to get on. However, the main problem that I have is that when I squat down with them, they cause EXTREME pain in my hip flexors area. I know they are supposed to be tight and all, but are they not supposed to let me get down to parallel or lower without feeling like my legs will be ripped off??
Any thoughts and/or advice are taken with extreme thanks.

Kenny would be the one to give you the best info on this, as he is a competitive Powerliter and has probably used them. The PL I did back in the day was strictly RAW, and I didn't use any equipment rather than a belt and occasionally some knee wraps. Just keep in mind, these are mainly used for competition, and from what I've seen, take at least one more person to help you get into them, because they are extremely tight. Also, due to the nature, you're going to need weight on your back to help you get down to parallel, and in most cases, lots of it. They provide somewhat of a spring effect coming out of parallel. I think most PL organizations allow them, but you have to check their rules. Again, Kenny and possibly Hoosegow and probably the ones to give you the best info, as I know both of themhave competed in PL.

It's kind of funny that that very same query was posted over a year ago on another forum. On that post, the user name matched the signature in the query. I don't think versitle is the same one that wrote that query.

Its funny how were getting a lot of this since we changed from 'unconfirmed spammer' to 'former lurker'

Re: Squat briefs`
Sty, how did you catch that? I'm amazed that you'd remember.

I just noticed the signature didn't match the poster so I did a query on it.Jungledoc wrote:Sty, how did you catch that? I'm amazed that you'd remember.

Well done.
Also, the style of the writing is a clue
It mentions a name brand
It makes no actual reference to specifics in the thread or anyone here
I'm ashamed I was actually friendly. Must be my upbringing
