After watching some more real bench press accidents (not just amusing farts) it is shocking that people do not use racks all the time. There was one with a spotter, and another with two spotters, and on both of them the guy dropped the bar but the spotters reacted too late. Crazy. Get a rack, stay safe!
Merry Christmas!

Well heres an update relating to my equiptment. Looks like I will be buying that texas power bar. My Dicks sporting goods O-bar decided it wanted to strip out the bolts and threads in the bar (I had it less than a year!!! My other one has held up for over 10 years.) and now the ends won't stay on and now I don't have a bar I can abuse anymore, fun. If you are a serious lifter, don't buy Dicks equiptment.

I found out from my dealer that the dicks sporting goods olympic weight sets o-bar capacity was in the range of 250-400lbs. That bar will now be strictly used for t-bar rows.
This new bar I got today is a 1500lb capacity spring steel bar. Very interesting peice fo equiptment. I used it on a set of 225lbs bp to see how many times I could rep it. I got it six times which thats 2 more than I ever could do before and I havn't hit the weights solidly for months now. I don't know how to describe it but it was different lifting the weight. The sticking point wasn't as bad as usual. If you are experienced at benching then you can feel the difference. I recommend it if you are a serious lifter and have a home gym.

I have:
Lifting Chalk (number one thing on my list now that I've used it!!!)
6 foot Gold's Gym standard bar with collars, total weight 10kg
Spin-lock DB's (not currently using them, doing Starting Strength)
Plates are:
3 x 1.5kg
4 x 2.5kg
4 x 5kg
2 x 10kg
2 x 20kg
Will add plates WHEN I surpass 103kg on one of my lifts! The 1.5kg plates were given to me by a mate with the 2.5's and Db's, he's still searching for the 4th one, why they're 1.5 not 1.25 I'm not sure!

This one is me doing a practice decent before abseiling a 100m waterfall (2 x 50m drops) in Vanuatu! Just thought I'd let people see what I look like! I weighed in at 127kg in that pic, I'm 110kg now!
Cheers,
John

Yeah so far the whole set up has only cost me around $400 Australian, probably have another $50 outlay to finish off the cage and it's done! Oh and adding plates of course! Once I have all the bits and pieces attached to the cage I'll throw on a coat or two of paint too, just ot "pretty it up" so to speak!
