I've been using the same weight DB's when doing shoulder lateral raises for a long time. Last week I nearly doubled the weight, kinda threw the weights up (i.e., cheated), and let them down slowly.

Invigorating! (Cleared my sinuses; that ever happen to you?)

But my shoulders look more massive as a result.

It's hard to believe your muscles grew noticeably from a single workout. However, a good pump can make it seem that way temporarily.

PS.) What you were doing is a variation of negatives. Another way to do nagatives would be to have a training partner assist with the positive portion of the rep and then resist unassisted durring the negative portion.

For someone who does not regulary train to high rep failure (like me or Teebee it seems) the pump gotten from these workouts can really feel weird in terms of how much they pump the muscle.

I am sur eyou have noticed that the more you train to failure the harder it is to get this (or maybe just to notice it).

I noticed a change after about two weeks of this exercise, mostly in the front delt, is that weird.

Depending on how your doing them you may be hitting the front delts more than the side delts.

Even though the lateral delts may be your target, it is possible for the front delts to take over the brunt of the exercise....if you do them standing straight up and lifting directly out to the sides. Even more so if you use a thumb up grip. If you wanna target the lateral delts more and take the front delts out of the move, try bending over a little bit and lift the weight slightly behind you, rather than directly out to the side. Also use a thumbs down grip
