Forearm pain (splints?)

Post by rexallxp » Thu Feb 02, 2006 11:08 am

I've been lifting for a couple years now, but have always done curls with dumbells. I purchased an easy curl bar a couple months ago, and recently have noticed sharp pains in my forearms while curling. Sometimes the pain lingers post workout for anywhere up to a day.

Based on a some quick internet searching, it seems to be forearm splints. Is there a way to reduce this problem without reducing reps or weight? Am I doing the right thing by just toughing it out, or should I lay off for a while?

I had a fairly similar problem about four years ago (it was actually the first time I really started lifting), using straight bars for curls.

Laying off for a while actually didn't make mine get better sadly, even after 8 months I still had wrist pain. Eventually I went to physical therapy and they had me basically do light wrist curls and wrist extensions (dumbbell).

Hopefully you won't get to that point, but I would suggest trying wrist curls and wrist extensions for a few weeks and see if that helps with the pain at all. Also try adjusting your grip on the ez curl bar (no straight bar curls.) and see if that helps too (it did for me).

And if the pain continues, I definitely suggest seeing a PT.
