The software could use an upgrade. It's on 2.0.21 and it says it needs to go to 2.0.23. Phpbb2 isn't supported as of last year, so it's kind of end of life software, so it might be good to upgrade to phpbb3.
There could be snags to the upgrade though. There are some MODS on here. So I would have to research that. I'll have to see what James thinks too. There may also be some packages that need to be upgraded.
The last time the forum got upgraded James paid some consultant to do it. That was before I was on here. My skills are very strong in operating system stuff, however I'm not an application guy. I only know how to run and MOD the software, I've never done upgrades or installs. I don't know much about MySQL either.I have modified it in the GUI panel, but that's about it. I mostly just cut and paste queries in there.
So if it's possible to take care of all those angles and proceed with the upgrade, I could use some help.
What is your knowledge and experience level on php, phpbb and MySQL?

As a Web Designer/developer/host , I have done a couple Forum Conversions. The last one I had to remove from an old Postnuke site.
I expected the last one to be much harder than it actually was. I spent a lot of time researching the conversion and once I actually started, I had the Forum Converted in less than 30min.
All can be done in the background from a copy of the database. That way, if something happens, it's simple to roll back to the current software.
Feel free to PM or email me with more detail, thoughts, or concerns and as stated, I will help any way I can. Depending on the backend server software, it may be more difficult to get a good backup and create a new database than to actually convert to phpBB3.

I've noticed that two members are nearing elevation to Deific Wizard, Stu, and, ah, somebody else. I was just wondering, is there a special ceremony, a sort of induction planned? Like the current Council of Deific Wizards (along with the Exalted Seer, who is in reality equal to the Deific Wizards) would do some mysterious chanting, and then Ironman would tap the inductee on the head with a flaming sceptor and pronounce him (or her) a Deific Wizard of Sagacity. Then the whole forum would fall silent while waiting for the first words of wisdom from the newly-installed wizard. And then Ironman would buy dinner for everybody.
