I was holding it on my chest/stomach... why is that bad?
No, but it's harder if you hold the weight behind your neck or over your head. It's also hard to guage the actual resistance because the weights could slide down closer to your waist, espacially as the weight goes up, making it hard to really compare one workout to another.

I have 50 pound plates, and 25 pound plates that I used for my sit-ups. The only way I could keep the weight from sliding down to my waist was to put the two 50's on my chest and hold the two 25's, so I don't really think they were sliding down on me. although I could imagine that holding it above my head would be harder. I'll do it like that, with a lower weight next time.

Sorry Angus!
And good move on the slow-but-steady approach. It works.

No hands squatting? Did you put your arms over the bar like it was a yoke?
By the way, one of the TUF12 guys is from my town - Andy Main, training out of AMA Fight Club, is from Boonton NJ. No, I don't know him, but keep an eye out for the guy. ;)

I once had a goal of lifting every Olympic-sized plate in our little gym. At the time we had 330 pounds of plates. I was trying to do this before leaving PNG for a trip to the US. About 2 days before leaving I managed to rack pull the whole lot! Lucky for me, because while we were away a shipment came that contained another 200 or so pounds of plates! It will be a while before I manage lifting the whole supply again.

so 5 x 5 is working a lot better than those bodypart splits did, huh?
It's nice to see you getting such a good reward for all of that squatting.

Yeah a lot better. I didn't know any better, My dad set up my last routine for me and sed it was good, so I did it. for about 2 months I gained strength and size (I was a beginner, so it didn't take much) and a year straight with no progression. With how unintelligent I am about training, I'm a lot smarter then I was.

thanks man.
