Decreased appetite during my break

Post by kidkurious » Sun Aug 27, 2006 10:34 pm

So, I've been physically inactive for about 1.5 weeks now due to a wrist injury, and I noticed that my appetite isn't as big as when I was working out. I'm eating a lot less.

Also, I weighed myself today, and apparently, I've lost about 5 pounds.

Is the weight I'm losing coming from fat? muscle? or both? - I don't want to lose muscle. If I force down my required calories, will that help maintain my muscle?

Hopefully, I will be back to training starting next week, and I'll be eating like a pig again, and getting bigger (muslce-wise).

Since you haven't been burning as many calories due to your inactiviy, I doubt much of the 5 pounds is muscle or fat. It could be water or measurement uncertainty.

I never pay much attention to weight swings in the 5 pound range because there are so many reasons other than muscle or fat for why weight can fluctuate in that range. If it jumps to 10 pounds or more, then you are probably looking at some muscle or fat change (though likely not all of it in will be muscle and fat change either, but some probably is).

I wouldn't worry about a 2 week layoff. You'll find that while you may be initially not quite as strong as previously, it comes back quicklyA lot of people I know do regularly scheduled layoffs for a week or two, regroup, and come back within days to where they left off.

What about the size I have gained?

Should I worry about that?

As to size, I attribute your weight loss, as you stated, to what Drew said. I wouldn't even worry about it being permanent for a week and a half to a two week period. You'll probably find that after you get back on course, it'll come right back. It's also been my experience that during a brief layoff, I usually go light by a couple of pounds, and it's mainly due to water loss, or something similarYou won't loose significant amounts of muscle in a week.
