I can maybe see that for neural strength gains with PL and OL. For bodybuilding it's just not possible. Your back doesn't know what you have done to your biceps. It would be the same thing as just lifting real light. Besides it sounds like he is new to bodybuilding and just needs a standard program to get started.
I do pre-exhaustion, but it is the stronger muscle you do that too. You do flys and then bench and that sort of thing. That way your chest is already pre-exhausted so it wears out before your triceps. I don't see how you could do it the other way around. You'd be lucky to get 1 rep if you pre-exhaust the weak link muscle. Maybe I'm just missing something, but it doesn't make any sense to me.
As to the pre-exhaustion thing, you might want to look up one of Ian King's routines. In the initial prep phase, he works the tri's first, 3 supersets, then the shoulders, 3 supersets, then has you doing regular benching after, guess what, 3 supersets of flys and cables. It's about prepping.Then, he shifts to a "normal" lineup of biggest first, for strength development. Sounds nuts, I know, but I did try it out, and if you are into bodybuilding, it does in fact work. There is no "one size fits all" in weight training. Just go out there with an open mind and try things out. You'd be surprized at how many different things work.
