Identity of muscle?

every once in a while I pull a muscle in my upper back just under the medial side of my scapula which makes it hard to take a deep breath. It is very hard to rest it and I don't know which muscle it is so I can't strengthen/stretch it to prevent it from happening again. any ideas?

Hi skinneyman. Lots of ideas. Go to the home page (exrx.net). Take the link to weight training. When there, use the left hand menu, scroll down to bodymap, and take that link. It will give you several views. Use your cursor to move the arrows, position it on the spot you want, and click on it. It will define the muscle for you, and give you lots of ideas on stretching, working it, etc.

Hey Tim, I'm not a doctor, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night. That sounds to me more like a back spasm. What do you think? Same remedy?

LOL, you bet Hoosegow. I'm no doctor either, but it sounds like a back spasm. I'm just trying to get the guy aquainted with all the resources here on site that he can use to locate the individual muscles and what recommendations they show for them. James did one heck of a job putting this site together, and its basically an encyclopedia of anatomy, exercise, and nutrition, just to name a few.
I know that when I have leg spams, I just pull out a heating pad, and put it under the area affected, it works for me, but I'm really not sure if thats the recommended treatment.

It's funny, I used to tweak something in between my scapula and torso whenever I did DB front raises, but only on the right side, so I cut them out. To this day I don't know what it was. It would crack, and then burn. Probably different prob than posted, but worth a mention.

Anything/exercise in particular trigger it?
