Raw broccoli instead of spinach?
I just tried it for the first time. Not sauteed, steamed, or baked. Raw.
It is freaking amazing. This can only mean two things. (1) I brainwashed myself to believe clean tastes good or (2) Raw broccoli is freaking amazing.
Wash. Shave fresh parmesan. Drizzle hot sauce. Serve with protein (I had salmon).
Is it a good substitute to spinach? Had monstrous amounts of baby spinach recently..

Hey, anything that's dark green is good for you. There's no need to subsitute anything, just sometimes you eat spinach, sometimes you eat broccoli. Maybe some days you crave for cauliflower. These are all foods that are good for you. But you don't have to consume heaps of ALL of them every day. They have roughly quite similar macros. (Protein, little carbs and fiber, and water)

I eat so much broccoli, it's basically my go-to side dish whenever I don't want carbs. There's actually a broccoli shortage in the UK just now due to the terrible weather we've been having. Bodybuilders everywhere are feeling the pinch!
if you eat it raw then your breath is going to smell rank. Just sayin...

I didn't realize that there were people in the world who don't eat broccoli raw! I've never had a problem with the breath thing.

If you eat too much raw broccoli (or cabbage, onions, cauliflower, etc), it may enter your colon undigested and then ferment causing gas, but that shouldn't affect your breath. Of course low carb can cause ammonia breath.
I found this reference that suggests that raw brocolli can improve your breath:

Fruits and vegetables . Foods rich in vitamin C, such as red bell pepper and broccoli, create an inhospitable environment for mouth bacteria. They work even better to fight bad breath when eaten raw, as crunchy produce of any kind is mechanically abrasive and helps to loosen trapped food particles.

you've obviously just become desensitised
Re: Raw broccoli instead of spinach?
Haha
I was actually worried about gas, so I tried this at home. No symptoms.
If I had to bet, it's probably because I don't eat anything in amounts that make me "lay for an hour and groan" (no finger pointing, but it's a quote from this site!)

mate you've got to EAT big to GET big!
Re: Raw broccoli instead of spinach?
Yeah, 2 pounds of broccoli per gram of body weight. I'm sure that's the formula that IM always pushes.

Absolutely! I definitely plan to increase intake when I clean up form on main lifts. I'm at learning intensity even on lifts where I can go heavier. If I eat like you at this intensity, the ROM on by bench will be about 5 inches :) (unless my arms lengthen)robertscott wrote:mate you've got to EAT big to GET big!
Besides, who wouldn't want two steaks after each workout?! You either eat mediocre steaks or have a trust fund.

Re: Raw broccoli instead of spinach?
try kale
try kale in chicken stock, with some potatoes, maybe some of the potatos blended in broth, also add Andouille sausage
I used to only eat broccoli raw, 'cause I'm lazy. But now at work I heat it up with coconut oil and almonds. That is delicious.
I find bigger batches of veggies easier to eat when cooked.
