single arm chest exercise
hello guys,
my right chest muscle is significantly smaller than my left one (maybe its bigger to the front, but smaller to the sides). i got a small funnel chest and a physio also told me some years ago that i have a lack of flexibility at the right shoulder. now i want to test, if the difference in size is a) conditioned through the funnel chest, because the muslce just starts a bit more at the side or b) that it's because of the inflexibility. do you now a serious one arm chest exercise to test it? if it's genetically, i think the muscles must be equally strong? what about keeping two dumbbells in the starting bench press position, and then press with the two arms alternating?

What is a "funnel chest"???
Any dumbbell chest exercise will compare strength. Yes, DB bench press, alternate, synchronous, or single-arm.

Re: single arm chest exercise
Could you just do one-armed bench presses on a smith machine? there wont be a balance problem as its a smith machine and you cant just try out the strength of each arm
Re: single arm chest exercise
smith press is a good idea.
i made the test now with alternating db bench press and the results is the strength of both muscles is similiar. so i have to see how the effect in size is when my chest gets bigger.

Re: single arm chest exercise
the bigger your chest gets, the less obvious the imbalance'll be.
I would just concentrate on getting a bigger chest, and not worry so much about trying to correct the imbalance

Re: single arm chest exercise
i hope so ;). i'm not really worrying, i just wanted to make a test, cause if the inflexibility would be the problem, this could also effect exercises like rows or so.robertscott wrote:the bigger your chest gets, the less obvious the imbalance'll be.

Re: single arm chest exercise
you'll probably have some sort of flexibility imbalance, everyone does, unless it's causing you pain then don't worry about it
Re: single arm chest exercise
i had some problems with the sternum at benching, but after a few months of serious stretching and lower volume the pain was gone! ok, so i just workout and see how my chest develops.robertscott wrote:you'll probably have some sort of flexibility imbalance, everyone does, unless it's causing you pain then don't worry about it
