Too Much of a Good Thing

Post by Jungledoc » Fri Nov 30, 2012 3:58 pm

Although I'm not a distance runner (not by a long shot!), I found this interesting. This article doesn't say that distance running is bad for you, but that long distances and faster speeds may be bad for you after a certain age. See what y'all think.

That article was posted on Reddit yesterday. It didn't seem to generate much discussion. I checked Google and it's all over the place, 169,000 mentions.

Anyway, it just prove that Art Devany was right all along.

I guess the real question is what effect this will have on how people exercise. Ken Cooper said that people should pay more attention to strength training as they age and do less cardio.

I'm sure there is an optimal amount everyone should do. It's probably more than I do. Anyone interested in a running challenge in the new year? Maybe, most improved over 800 meters?

I don't plan on being dead to anyone for a long time.
