Gyms in Gastonia/Charlotte

Post by hoosegow » Fri May 17, 2013 7:28 am

I'm going to be there next week - anyone have a recommendation? Gastonia is on the West side of Charlotte.
Thanks TimD.

Fitness Factory, they've got it all (except decent belts). Was there a couple of months ago when my friend got married.

Cages, chalk, farmers bars, prowler, dumbbells, landmine attachment.

They even got a horse-sized dog behind the counter.

On the downside, NO DECENT BELTS. If you are squatting or deadlifting heavy and need a belt you must bring your own.

My guess is a 1/2 hour drive from Gastonia, but if you want a real powerlifting gym you don't have to guess. http://fitnessfactoryofcharlotte.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

FORGOT: On the way back to Gastonia, on i-85 south, get off at Billy Graham Parkway and go to the Cracker Barrel to blow your careful diet out of the water, and die happy.

Thanks Ken. I always bring my own belt anyways.

Fitness Factory it is then. It's only 24 miles from where I'll be.
Thanks TimD.

VERY IMPORTANT DETAIL I LEFT OUT.

You must call and tell them you are coming.

Their front door is always locked. Members have access cards and can let themselves in 24/7, but for folks like you and me the gym owners make no particular effort to have somebody up front to hear you knocking. But if you call they will be sure to keep a lookout for you.

Are you kidding me Ken?!?!? You way undersold this place. I hated everything about NC until I went there. Now I'm ready to move here. There is stuff in there I'd never heard of. The Big Bertha squat machine?!?!?
Thanks TimD.

Glad to hear it.

You guys here on exrx really did sell me on the major movements so I just went in and benched one day and deadlifted the other day, I saw all that stuff all over the place but didn't do anything with it.

I tried one of those when I was in Ottawa. The YMCA had one. It seems that location (in the arena the Senators play in) caters to a lot of hockey players and Special Ops people.

Apparently saying it has "it all" among other accalades is the new underselling.
