Re: Random crap
Yes, you can deadlift with a bent bar. But if you don't line it up it WILL roll out of your hands.

Re: Random crap
As I was leaving the gym on Friday, I noticed that the car parked next to mine had a bedspread draped across the back seats. Is it bad that the first thing I thought of was "Pulp Fiction"?
Re: Random crap
In the gym I've worked out in several times lately, it is the fashion to walk around wearing lifting straps on the wrists. The only time I've seen any one using them was for triceps push-downs.

Re: Random crap
Okay, my gym is awesome.
Like I've told before, weightlifters train at the same place. So there's lots of BB's, platforms and plates. That's cool. But NOW, they installed a camera that records certain parts of the platform non-stop, and in the corner is a TV where the recording is shown in like 5-10s delay. The TV is very visible almost everywhere on the platform, and there's two squat racks and two big platforms that reach the cameras range. So yeah. I was just checking my Front Squat form from a big TV right after I did the rep.
Now that's neat. I like weightlifters.

Re: Random crap
Matt, you're taking this love of nature thing way too seriously. At least while you're at work you need to focus on your job, and save the role-playing for your off hours.Matt Z wrote:I was a Giant Leopard Moth at work yesterday. Too bad I can't take pictures at work.
Edit: Shucks. I wrote my cute answer without reading down any further. Oh well, I tried.

Good news/bad news
The good news is that there is a great little gym close to my house. Day rate is $5. It's run by a young couple. They are both trainers, and have their little boy running around the place. The guy is a competitive strong man. They have Atlas stones, several different kinds of farmer's walk apparatus, several sizes of tires, sledge hammer, a Prowler, and on and on! The owners are quite friendly (which, of course, they should be) but other people were friendly as well. Chalk is openly used!
The bad news is that I didn't discover it sooner--they have been in business in different locations in the area for several years. There is further bad news--I'm going to be really sore tomorrow, after doing 2 exercises that were brand new to me or that I haven't done for a long time.

It's amazing how you can read t-nation every day and then pick up something you never realized.
Doc: better late than never! Glad to hear about the gym.

Re: Random crap
Scale came up 179 today, down from a peak of 191 couple of months ago. Numbers are up in the gym.
So maybe you can get stronger and lose weight -- if you're losing fat.
If I can hold it under 181 I just might get on the board at the gym. All the really strong guys are at 198+, and the kids are at 165-, so consistent dietary habits may be my ticket onto the board.

Re: Random crap
My gym has 7 barbell benches (3 flat, 2 incline, 1 decline and 1 shoulder press) and 4 racks, but only 8 Olympic barbells. Worse still, over half of the barbells are either bent or worn out/falling apart. When I asked the young woman at the desk about the possibility of them getting some new barbells, she said it may be a while, since they have machines that need repairs. They're also getting a new cable station.
Re: Random crap
A little more about the new gym. When my son and I were working out the other evening there was a kid hanging around, I guess he was lifting, but I didn't pay attention. There was a bigger guy lifting without a shirt who was pretty impressive, so I didn't pay any attention to the kid. Turns out it was this kid. He's the nephew of the owner of the gym.
