Holding on to the treadmill

Post by tostig » Sat Mar 15, 2014 2:35 pm

I've seen too many people young and old walk and jog on the treadmill at high or no incline AND holding on to either the side rails or the display panel.

I know holding on inherently negates everything you are trying to achieve but I even googled looking for the benefits or why you should or need to hold on. But the only results are websites explaining not to hold on.

I'm not the type of person to tell each person in the gym the proper way to do things. But I've been wondering if I should tell the staff at the gym or write an e-mail to post a notice not to hold on to the treadmill.

Should I do this or should I just let it go as it's really none of my business.

It doesn't hurt anything and it makes people think they're doing more work that they actually are, since the calorie burn is based on not holding on. Considering how much useless exercise people do anyway, it really doesn't matter if they cheat at it. They're only cheating themselves.

Thanks for the feedback.

Sometimes I feel I should do something about it, not because I want to show off but that it's important to tell people to do things the proper way.

don't do it. Being the "unsolicited advice guy" at the gym will do you no favours

If people want advice they will. Unfortunately I used to be the "unsolicited advice guy," beyond the fact of the person probably not liking you too much they aren't gonna listen (or will for about 5 mins until you walk away) and your wasting your breathe. Can't change the world ya know
