MCL/LCL Damage
I just had a question about the type of contact one must undergo to experience LCL or MCL damage. I know that LCL damage can occur by getting a blow medially and that MCL damage can occur by getting a blow laterally. I guess what I need/want to know is if any type of rotation is necessary for these damages to occur. Thanks.
If the knee is placed into extension underload and the body rotates but the foot remains transfixed then a MCL, or LCL injury may occur (in addition to the likely ACL). Additionally if the MCL is damaged this way the rotaional forces can also damge the medial menisci causing whats often called a bucket tear.
this kind of injury is common in sudden stop start sports such as football and basketball.
