How accurate are calorie requirement assessments?
Since most calorie requirement assessments only take into account your sex, age, height, weight and a very arbitrary lifestyle measurement, how accurate could they really be?
The calculations are good enough to give you a starting point. If you've been trashing your metabolism by eating at starvation amounts, or if you have a high metabolism because you fidget a lot or are taking drugs, they could be wildy off. A too high or too low metabolism could also be a sign of hormone issues, particulaily thyroid.
if you know what works for you, then keep at it. Adjust up or down in small increments.
If you think your metabolism is slower than normal, you can repair it by increasing your food intake gradually, weight training regularily and supplementling with fish oil.
To prevent metabolism damage, ensure you don't go into calorie deficit more than a few days at a time.
