my boss told me this today. if so, i feel so much less of a wuss then i did before!

ha ha, look at that, instant progress!

yup, two plates = 135
four plates = 225
six plates = 315
eight plates = 405

You get good at adding odd number scheme's real fast.

Yes! The bar counts. 20KG/45lb!

i was telling my boss that i was pumped that i worked out with 80lbs dumbbells for bench press and he said "oh you should be just about at 200lbs on bb press.". i felt like a girl when all i could think of was that i could still only do 140lbs.

man do i feel so much better about my progress now!

This is a common error, but I have to admit, I don't know why. It's not like the bar is weightless...but you're hardly the first guy to not count it. :wink:

My oldest training journals says stuff like "50# + bar" because I didn't know what the bar weighed, though. I had a designation system so I knew which bar I was using, so eventually I weighed them and went back and modified the entries. :smile:

i didn't used to count the bar either, it's a great feeling when you find out though! An instant 20k on your lift. Good stuff

it's like going from a wuss, to having respectable numbers for a guy in my situation.

I'm not counting my bar...but that's because its hollow....lol. I could probably add 10 lbs to everything I'm doing.

I've always counted the bar except for one time and it did me a huge favour! My 1 rep max was 100kg for ages, then one day I put 4x20kg plates on olympic bar at the gym and had a short term math malfunction! Thinking I was lifting 80kg I got under the bar and did 3 reps, I was dissapointed cause I was aiming for 8 reps until I re-did the math, then I was VERY happy!

Oh and I have a standard bar at home, a solid Gold's Gym one, it weights 10kg with the collars on and I always count it in my total weight!!!

Enjoy the feeling you have. A good PR lasts a few days, makes you smile, and then you start moving forward again, this time a bit happier.

There are 10# standard bars. Why wouldn't you include the weight in the total?

Never thought about it until this thread. I do have a solid bar coming in a couple days and will be adding that to my plate weight.

Edited to add: It is kind of cool knowing that I am already benching my bodyweight by adding bar weight..... :grin:

Edited a second time to add: It is stupid not to add that weight...lol. I will add it starting with tomorrows workout.

:grin: the best part is that i've been progressing pretty well with all my lifts and this makes me feel even better about everything. now all i need is some chalk dust and i'm as good as gold!
