Vertical jump is a common way to measure power. You could also do long jump, which is actualy easier to administer. Technique plays a big role but both tests involve the largest myscles in the body. I would think that Push Press would be a good measure of upper body power.

For upper body, there are techniques for measuring bar speed, including specialized electronic gadgets which are expensive. The easiest way that I can think of would be video. Video a given lift, use editing software to count how many frames it takes to move the bar through a full ROM (30 frames/sec, approximately). Or various throws. Throw a given object using a given technique. If it goes further than last time, you're applying more power.

Priceless.

As long as you are throwing it at the same angle. That would be toughJungledoc wrote: Throw a given object using a given technique. If it goes further than last time, you're applying more power.

Remember a few years ago when Raold Bradstock posted hereÉ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roald_Bradstock" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
It seems heàs breaking age records everytime he throws now.
(my keyboards messed up)
Throwing stuff reminded me of him.
Here he is setting the commonwealth record in 1985.
